1. During WWII, Hitler launched an offensive known as “Operation Barbarossa” (Unternehmen Barbarossa in German), attacking the Soviet Union (even if they had a pact of non-aggression).

Make a short Powerpoint presentation on the topic (4-5 slides), including the following information.

l  What was the purpose of the aggression?

l  What did the nazi army do in order to achieve its objective?

l  How did the Soviet Union react? What was the “scorched-earth” tactics?

l  How did Operation Barbarossa ended?

You will prepare the presentation using these materials:

l  the video “German invasion of Russia during Operation Barbarossa” (pt.1)

l  the video “German invasion of Russia during Operation Barbarossa” (pt.2)

l  the web page “Operation 'Barbarossa' And Germany's Failure In The Soviet Union”, especially the paragraphs “Why Operation Barbarossa failed”, “German logistical problems” and “The success of soviet resistance”.

If you want, you can search for more materials, although it’s not mandatory.

4. Send the homework via email to the teacher (cosimo.plasmati@gmail.com) in a file named “Operation Barbarossa - student’s name.ppt”
